Monica Knight formerly Coneys is an entrepreneur, community developer, speaker, facilitator, teacher and consultant. Her rich and varied life path now informs her current passion for driving change in Saskatchewan and Canada. She began her career teaching in England, India and Ireland, later moving to South Africa as a human resource executive for a chain of retail stores. It was in South Africa that Monica experienced the African philosophies of cooperation and interdependence in business and community development; that changed her life.

The spirit of Ubuntu “I am because you are” underpins the fabric of traditional African society and this philosophy has manifested itself within Monica’s unique brand of intrapreneurial ‘hive’ model. From Africa to the Canadian Prairies, Monica has followed her heart and investigated the business hive phenomena in practical and experiential ways, always incorporating the connectivity and security of Ubuntu.

Moving to Lafleche Saskatchewan from Johannesburg South Africa in 1995, Monica embraced her own paradigm shift. In this rural community of 446 residents, Monica developed her first Canadian business hive and then moved on as economic developer for the neighbouring Town of Gravelbourg.  The Main Street of Gravelbourg is today a testament to Monica's revitalization efforts and repositioning of the community as ‘A Touch of Europe on the Prairies’.

Monica launched a consulting and speaking career in 1998 and today continues her path of supporting transformational change. She is now working assertively to integrate her intrapreneurial business model into socio-economic challenged communities
and ‘youth with potential’.

Monica obtained her Education Diploma in Liverpool England, later graduating from the
Rusfurn Management School in Johannesburg South Africa. She graduated from Royal Roads University in Victoria BC with a Masters in Leadership and Training in 2005. Monica is currently working on her Phd at the University of Regina. The essence of intrapreneurism was the focus of her Masters thesis and is also the foundation of her current Phd studies.
